Turkey is a rapidly modernising country with one foot in Europe and one in the
Middle East.
A land of vast open spaces, massive mountain ranges, fertile valleys and
rugged coastline, fast-growing cities and sleepy villages, bustling seaside
resorts and unfrequented beaches. If however you want to simply unwind,
spend an afternoon being pampered at a hamam, or let the warm waters off
the Mediterranean coast lap at your toes. Adventure lovers can head east to
Nemrut Dagi National park.
The Turkish people have an unrivalled reputation for hospitality, the cuisine
is to die for, the coastline is a dream, and many Turkish cities are dotted with
spectacular mosques and castles.
Turkey is a huge country, and its climate varies widely from region to region
as well as seasonally. For sightseeing holidays to Istanbul and the most
important ancient and medieval sights, and for active walking holidays, the
best times to visit are spring and autumn when days are generally warm and
sunny but not uncomfortably hot.
The excellent exchange rate with the Turkish Lira means that visitors get
great value for money although the area is more expensive than it used to be.
A holiday in Turkey is ideal for rejuvenating and relaxing, and has something
to offer all holidaymakers.

Turkey food and drink. Turkish food combines culinary traditions from the people's nomadic past in
Central Asia with influences of the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine.
Why not try some of the following Turkish dishes, Kofte, spicy meatballs made
of minced lamb, Shish kebab, pieces of meat threaded on a skewer and
grilled, Dolma, vine leaves or vegetables stuffed with pine nuts and currants
and Lokum, Turkish Delight - originally made from dates, honey, roses and
jasmine bound by Arabic gum.
A wide range of international cuisine is also available in the major cities, and
standard German and British dishes along the coasts.
Raki is without a doubt the national beverage of choice in Turkey. It is derived
from grapes, but this is the only similarity that it has with wine It has a strong
link to Turkish and Ottoman history. Turkish coffee is famous around the
world, but tea or cay is the country’s most popular drink. Wine and spirits are
heavily taxed and therefore expensive compared with local beers, which are
less heavily taxed.
